ABOUT US

OUR STORY

Cooee Bunji is a grass roots organisation where culture is respected and celebrated. We deliver practical support to Aboriginal people, from all walks of life. We are attuned to the Stolen Generation survivors and their descendants, and we stand with you.

As an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, Cooee Bunji is governed by a Board of Directors who are elected by our members. We stand separate from the politics in community and maintain the anonymity of staff members, volunteers and the community we support.

Cooee Bunji is a model of support that founder Sherri Lyle has been practicing for over 40 years. In 2021 Cooee Bunji was formalised as a grass roots organisation and support model through Dhelk Dja funding.

Cooee Bunji means come here friend/mate. Cooee Bunji exists to support the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal people, we listen to the stories and embrace the healing, resilience and survival.
